The turn of the season is well and truly upon us, leaving summer far behind, and now the familiar glimpses of winter are beginning to briefly peep in too. It’s been something novel for me, watching these changes in stillness from my field, rather than me matching the season’s pace with my travelling. The wind howls up at me from the coast, the birds struggle in the sky, and the water is thick and white oxygenated foam from its huge swells and 80mph blows. I’m cosy, and loving watching it move and change, marvelling at the earth’s power in it’s rotation, from inside my little studio on wheels on the north coast of Cornwall.
But I haven’t just been looking out the window, here’s what’s been unfolding the last few weeks..
Newly signed with Making Pictures agency
I’m delighted to share this news! With so many projects on this past year, not to mention an MA, I’ve been feeling burnt out from the admin side of my work, and craving the space to focus on creating. So I’m thrilled to now be represented worldwide by Making Pictures, who will be supporting more on this side of my business. I’m happy they understand the values and direction behind my work, and trust them in aligning projects that drive my work to bigger scale and impact, while leaving me to concentrate my energy on making the best work I possibly can.
You can still contact me directly about projects, and they will be happy to chat to you also at info@making-pictures.co.uk.
Blue Earth Summit
A whirlwind week in October saw my floating installation piece from my immersive Deep Dive with Reclaim the Sea go from display in Plymouth, to the main exhibition room at Blue Earth Summit in Bristol. A 3 day event of talks, inspiration, and action with 5000+ decision makers, industry pioneers, provocative thought-leaders, sustainability trailblazers, insightful solutionists and boundary-pushing start ups.
The outcomes from my immersive programs are always to be focused on initiating conversation and driving change, so it was really fitting for my Reclaim The Sea piece to be shown at this event, where it would help elevate their documentary trailer and Q&A there on the work they do.
Are you interested in my immersive Deep Dive program? Talk to me about it.
Illuminating data
I’ve been telling everyone who will listen at the moment on the power of using illustration to break down complex data or scientific themes. Illustrated infographics are powerful tools that can bolster a campaign or messaging. This graphic I made for the Save Our Mangroves Now! campaign has been repeatedly shared well over 2000 times on LinkedIn. The intricate details work in tandem with the text to draw you in to read further, while the illustration portrays a beautifully enchanting environment you want to protect.
If something like this would be helpful for your organisation or initiative then get in touch! I have space for one more similar project coming into December.
What I’m inspired by right now
Have you seen the Life on our Planet series on Netflix?! The combination of history and ecological science (read - evolution) to tell the story of life on earth, is absolutely my jam and I devoured it all in 4 days. It took them 6 years to research and develop the series, and I’m ready to watch it again!
Until next time! I’ll be getting ready to migrate for the colder winter season, and look forward to catching up with you again then.
